Do Your Students Know RISM from RILM? Automate a Music Resource Matchmaker

Rachel Scott, University of Memphis; Joel Collin Roberts, University of Memphis

A common reference question in both music and general academic settings is, “Which database should I search?” Library research guides and A-Z lists can overwhelm novice users accustomed to searching a single interface. The Music Resource Matchmaker uses simple survey technology to recommend an appropriate database based on patron input. Most importantly, because this tool is DIY, the Matchmaker can highlight local collections and support local curriculum and programming. Attendees will see the Matchmaker in action and discuss the planning and implementation process.
